Protective clothing for the mining industry
The mining industry is considered a very dangerous sector with one of the most hazardous working environments. According to a non-profit safety council in the US, the mining industry holds the second highest casualty rates. It is therefore crucial that workers are equipped with quality personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep them safe while on the job.
Mining industry workers face a lot of on-the-job risks and hazards depending on the specific task they are performing. In the recent report of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, 40% of the injuries occur on the body while around 22% occur on the hands. Approximately 74% of these injuries are electricity-related (electric shocks, electric burns, electrocutions), while 13% are related to heat (thermal) burns and more than 10% were related to cuts and lacerations.
The mining sector is a key industry in today’s society. The minerals and metals it provides are used for infrastructure, energy supply, transportation, manufacturing, construction, sewage treatment and even food and water supply, but at a high cost, as mining for these minerals exposes workers to many high-risk tasks, be it working at an open-pit surface or in the underground mines in mostly remote areas.
Kozane® offers a range of cut, tear, abrasion, puncture and heat-resistant fabrics that can be used to create high-performance personal protective equipment (PPE) suitable to address the cut and heat hazards in the mining sector.
Kozane® Pyro with its unique three-dimensional composition makes it an outstanding cut and heat-resistant fabric and at the same time, it combines optimum comfort and protection. It can be used for several applications from protective clothing such as coveralls and arm guards, to gloves, like our very own Granberg® Mig Welding Gloves 3810.
Kozane® Supreme has achieved the highest possible cut resistance level of ANSI A9 according to the American Standard, and at the same time offers outstanding puncture, tear and abrasion resistance. It is soft and breathable, which makes it suitable for manufacturing cut-resistant garments such as coveralls, arm guards, or chaps.
Kozane® Extreme is stronger than traditional aramid fibres and continues to perform even when wet or exposed to ultraviolet light. It offers a great combination of cut resistance and wearability making it perfect for various garment applications. It can be used for jackets, sweaters, shirts, vests or trousers.
Providing the appropriate protection for those working in this dangerous environment is a major responsibility.
